چکیده

Background. Information from clinical studies is limted regarding the optimal method for myocardial proection in immature hearts, and specifically the benefits f different cardioplegia (CP) formulations. We comared two CP techniques by evaluation of the cardiac ndex using thermodilution catheters. Methods. The study cohort includes 102 neonates and nfants (aged 2 to 269 days) undergoing biventricular repair urgery. A total of 52 patients were managed with commerially available crystalloid CP (“standard CP”) and 50 had a ustom mix of crystalloid CP with dilute blood (“custom P”). Repeated-measures analysis of variance was applied o compare the cardiac index every 3 hours during the 4-hour postoperative period between the two groups and tratified by diagnosis. Adjustment for possible confoundrs was used to more objectively compare the groups. Results. Standard crystalloid CP provided superior yocardial protection in patients who had transposition

Recipient of 1987 Fellowship Award in Cardiovascular Perfusion Age Related Differences in Oxygen Free Radical Injury during Myocardial Ischemia

_____________________________ __ (J. Extra-Corpor. Techno/. 19[3] p. 245-257 Fall 1987, 42 ref.) Myocardial protection with an oxygenated cardioplegic solution was studied in mature and immature animals. Isolated adult and neonatal rabbit hearts were exposed to 90 minutes of hypothermic 30°C ischemia, and one of the following treatments: multidose oxygenated (p02>650 torr) cardioplegia, multido...

Frequency of Congenital Cardiac Malformations in the Neonates with Congenital Hypothyroidism

Background: Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is a prevalent disorder, which is associated with several other congenital anomalies, especially cardiac diseases. The present study aimed to determine the prevalence of congenital heart disease (CHD) in the neonates with CH.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on two groups of 79 subjects to compare the type and frequency of congenital ca...

The Cardioprotective Effects of N acetylcysteine as an Additive to the Blood Cardioplegia During Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

Introduction: During coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), the role of cardioplegic solution which results in cardiac arrest, is critical. This study was planned to evaluate the clinical impacts of N acetylcysteine (NAC) enriched cold-blood cardioplegia on early reperfusion injury in patients with ischaemic heart disease undergoing CABG Methods: In a...

Adding Emulsified Isoflurane to Cardioplegia Solution Produces Cardiac Protection in a Dog Cardiopulmonary Bypass Model

This study investigated whether caridoplegia solution with Emulsified Isoflurane (EI) could improve cardiaoprotection in a dog CPB model of great similarity to clinical settings. Adult dogs were randomly assigned to receive one of the following cardioplegia solutions: St. Thomas with EI (group ST+EI), St. Thomas with 30% Intralipid (group ST+EL) and St. Thomas alone (group ST). The aorta was cr...

Decreased incidence of low output syndrome with a switch from tepid to cold continuous minimally diluted blood cardioplegia in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting.

OBJECTIVES The optimal temperature for blood cardioplegia remains unclear. METHODS A retrospective analysis was performed on 138 patients undergoing isolated myocardial revascularization by a single surgeon in our institution over a period of 2 years. Patients operated on early in the study period received tepid (29°C) continuous minimally diluted blood cardioplegia (minicardioplegia), delive...
